At Any Cost, premiering on VH1 on Wednesday, Aug. 16, tries to show the pitfalls of climbing out of obscurity in rock 'n' roll. The
drama focuses on two brothers, Lance (Eddie Mills, Wasteland) and Mike (James Franco, Freaks and Geeks), who, with Lance's wife,
Chelsea (Maureen Flannigan, 7th Heaven), form a band. Their friend Ben (Glenn Quinn, Angel) manages the group. "Everyone wants that
five minutes of wanting to be a rock star," Mills says, adding he was thrilled to do his own singing. "I basically put down all of
the tracks in a total of four days. They say, `guerrilla shooting'; well, this was guerrilla record making." He and Quinn both say
that because they hang out with a lot of musicians, they think the story is a fairly accurate portrayal of the seedier underbelly of
rock life. "I believe that stuff goes on," says Quinn, whose father is a musician in Ireland. "You see these guys turn into
villains. The bigger they rise, the harder they fall."
